Medium flame resistant sponge silicone tape is a family of high-performance products featuring a unique chemical structure that provides high temperature stability and general inertness unavailable in any other elastomer. As a result, Silicone Rubber works in applications where no other material can be used. These high performing products are frequently used in a variety of applications and many markets including military, aerospace, electronics, life science, transportation, LED lighting, electric vehicles (EV) and packaging.

How Much Heat Can Medium Flame Resistant Sponge Silicone Tape Handle?
Silicone is considered almost exclusively when you talk about heat-resistant tapes.
The bonds of silicone adhesives can typically withstand -60°F to 500°F (-51°C to 260°C), at least for short-term uses. Many tapes can survive short bursts of high heat without long-term applications, which is something you'll want to keep an eye out for once you're perusing different technical datasheets.
Silicone adhesives are often used in high-temperature aerospace, automotive, construction, and electrical applications.
What Temperatures Can Different Grades of Medium Flame Resistant Sponge Silicone Tape?
General Purpose Silicones
General purpose silicones like silicone sealants and gaskets tend to have a high-temperature limit of around 200 C to 250 C and also lower temperatures of -50 C to -75 C. This makes silicone the perfect material for applications with extreme temperature requirements.
Heat stabilised silicone
Heat stabilised silicones contain additives that increase their maximum operating temperature to 260°C.
High-temperature silicone
High-temperature grades of silicone contain additives that make them suitable for applications up to 300°C for intermittent periods. If the part is to be exposed to continuous temperatures over 300°C then the silicone's properties would degrade with time.
Flame retardant silicone grades
Flame retardant grades can withstand intermittent temperatures up to 220°C (depending on the specific grade). These materials contain additives which enhance silicones' self-extinguishing properties.
Is Medium Flame Resistant Sponge Silicone Tape Heat Resistant?
Most of the time, they are used as gasketing materials. However, from time to time we see them used as heat insulating products as well. Silicone foam/sponge are great thermal insulators for a few reasons:
· They are blown materials, so the cells hold off transfer of heat well.
· They have high heat resistance. Many silicone foam rubbers are capable of going above 350°F.
· They resist a compression set, even after strenuous heat exposure.

How to Store Medium Flame Resistant Sponge Silicone Tape?
Prior to use, all silicone sealants must be stored in a cool, dry location. The optimal storage temperature range is 60-80 °F (15-27 °C). Once the packaging of a single-component sealant is opened, the material will begin to cure. Preserving the sealant from developing undesired cure of the material can be achieved by promptly closing the sealant's container immediately after completion of use.
The curing mechanism of single-component silicone sealants is initiated with the introduction of airborne water vapor to the exposed sealant. The seals of sealant containers are effective as isolating the sealant from the atmosphere, and the water vapor that it contains, for extended periods of time.
Storage of packaged silicone sealants in locations that experience significant temperature fluctuations and/or cyclic temperature changes may be problematic as these conditions are known to accelerate the migration of air and water vapor into the sealant container, unduly exposing the sealant to conditions that ill ultimately reduce the effective shelf life of the material or the overall performance of the sealant when applied. Therefore, it is recommended to ensure that the storage of silicone sealants be in a temperature-controlled environment with a stable ambient air temperature.
If the volume if either component of two-component silicone sealant container measures five or more gallons, then it is recommended to utilize the follower plate of the appropriate dispensing equipment as a functional seal that mitigates the diffusion of air to the contents of the container. The container of either component of a two-component silicone should only be opened immediately before it is to be dispensed with suitable sealant delivery equipment. It is recommended that the follower plate be lowered into the sealant container immediately after the container is opened and should remain inserted into this container until the contents have either been completely consumed or are to be removed for disposal.
Is Medium Flame Resistant Sponge Silicone Tape Safe in High Heat?
Silicone is basically a synthetic rubber, which is prepared by combining silicon, oxygen and carbons, bonded in a defined ratio. However, these elements like oxygen, silicon, and carbons are naturally occurring and are usually safe to use.
Medium flame resistant sponge silicone tape, and oven safe, but only up to 428 degrees Fahrenheit or 220 Celsius. Moreover, due to its bonded composition, silicon is non-toxic, non-biodegradable and non-recyclable.
